STRATEGY OF THE MONTH

Home School Connection
Component: Guided Oral Practice

Rationale
  • Builds a relationship between home and school creating and building communication with parents and students.
  • Promotes communion in the home language
  • Develops students’ awareness of parents as a resource
  • Builds cross-cultural respect and sensitivity; celebrates similarities and differences
 
Strategic Design
  • Create four to five Home School Connections per unit (add a line for parent signature)
  • If possible develop Home School Connection using primary language of the students in the classroom (validates home language and cultural experiences)

Delivery 
  • Establish and articulate comprehensible language objective and content objective
  • Day 1: Read and discuss Home School Connection with students
  • Day 2 Use a variety of ways to students to share with the team and whole class
  • Teams earn one point for each connection brought back signed
  • If each team member brings one in (signed), the team earns bonus points
