STRATEGY OF THE MONTH

Cognitive Content Dictionary (CCD)

Key Points
  • Remember we teach one word per day (2-3 words for secondary).
  • Pick words that are “meaty”. Think about not only content words but words that go across the curriculum.
  •  The first two columns are done on one day and the next two are done the next day!
  • Predictions are important. Don’t skip this step!
  • Word work is done on Day 2 before Oral Sentence!
  • Use the signal word for all transitions “When I say the signal word…”
  • Teach the word during the day! And if you don’t get a chance don’t do the final meaning until you have taught it.
  • Students give oral sentences in their teams.
  • Use language frames for predictions and sentences
